Government Shutdown

Government Shutdown

If you didn't already know, my real job is with the Federal Government. I work in the real estate arm, leasing space that is needed by other Federal agencies. Even though my kids draw me at work rappelling down buildings and shooting it out with the bad guys, it's much less glamorous. Monday night, at midnight, Congress failed to pass a budget. That meant, as of 12:01 AM Tuesday morning, certain aspects of the Government began to shut down. All "non-essential" workers (including me), were placed on furlough, which is a fancy way of saying we're on unpaid vacation.

It hasn't been too bad as of yet. I've run every day, exploring new neighborhoods and parks with my new running buddy, the Little Worker (though really I'm just the engine for his stroller). I've gotten some small projects done around the house, and, in general, life has just moved along quietly. While I'm enjoying this free time, we're hoping that it all ends soon and I'm back to work on Monday. Even though Congress doesn't always pay its bills, we still will have to.

  1. Very sorry! As you can imagine around here, I know lots of folks sitting it out with you. Congress is full of immature #%^&* these days!

  2. Don't even get me started on this gov't BS. I'm glad you're making the best of it, but I'm sure it'll suck at some point not to have your $$. If it were up to me I'd fire the whole damn Congress.

  3. I know how you feel! My husband works for the federal government too. His job is essential, but without pay. They can't use their vacation time or any sick days. If they go home, they have a huge chance of being fired. Hope everything gets better soon!
