Furloughed No More...For Now

Furloughed No More

President Barack Obama signed a bill to reopen the federal government and lift the debt limit just after midnight this morning, which means that I, along with approximately 800,000 other Federal employees, are back on the job! This is a temporary fix, with the possibility of us all going through this again after the New Year. The agreement only funds the federal government in place of an annual budget through 1/15/2014 and lifts the debt limit through 2/7/2014.

The retroactive pay provision will pay us for the time missed, but not help those of us who borrowed money to pay bills. Also, I will not be credited with either annual leave or sick leave I would have earned. All in all though, it hasn't been too bad. While it will take a while for most employees to wade through email and phone messages and figure out where to pick up in various ongoing projects, for a lot of people it will be business as usual very soon.

  1. Yay for being back! I feel useful again! :)

  2. Phew! I was really getting worried for MCM. Shows you where my priorities are.

  3. It is about time, that's for sure. And it was all for what? My NASA friend got her call at midnight last night to go back today--fun! ; )

  4. Glad you are back at work! This can really put some people in difficulty.
