Training: 3/11/13 - 3/17/13

Maple Woods Winter Trail Running

Monday: CrossFit Trail Running
  • I know Coach Mike would say I don't need to run, that CrossFit is enough, but some days a run is just what's on my mind. 4 miles -- a wet, icy, snowy, muddy, sloppy run today, total blast. Elements were perfect to showcase how great the Mammut React GTX trail running shoes are. Happily, one of the last winter weather runs (at least, I hope so!).
  • 39 burpees on tap today for the 100 Day Burpee Challenge - doing them in sets of 10, seems to be working so far.
Tuesday: CrossFit
  • Woke up feeling under the weather: congested head, sore throat, plugged-up ears, beginning of a headache. No CrossFit.
  • In spite of how I was feeling, got my 40 burpees done.
Wednesday: Off

Work in the office downtown, so no workout, unless I climb stairs or go for a long walk downtown. Thursday is definitely a day off, not going to make the same mistake by not tapering this week for the workout Friday. Workout 13.2 to be announced tomorrow night, really nerve-wracking -- I'm pretty sure 13.1 was my strongest workout and I barely got through that.

Thursday: Off
  • Not making the same mistake as last week, doing nothing today, not even burpees -- I'll make those up tomorrow or Saturday.
  • Workout 13.2 was announced last night:
  • 10 minute AMRAP of:
    • 5 Shoulder to overhead, 115 / 75 lbs
    • 10 Deadlift, 115 / 75 lbs
    • 15 Box jump, 24 / 20 inch
  • Seems like a straightforward workout, not sure about the first lift, it'll be interesting to see how 115 pounds feels for me. Box jumps at 24" might also be tough, I've been using the 20" box during WODs. Time to step it up.

CrossFit Amplify

Friday: CrossFit
  • Workout 13.2! Felt decent going in, tough warmup though (that's why the CrossFitters say that other peoples' sport is their warmup, haha). Warming up with the barbell, felt strong until picked up the 115#, but wanted to Rx the workout, so there it was. Right from the start got into a good rhythm, did step-ups rather than box jumps as well, because I can do them even when out of breath. Took minimal breaks, counting to ten and then getting right back on the bar, really pushed and surprised myself, getting 5 rounds +1 = 151 reps!
  • Felt good, but 85 burpees still remained to be done, 42 from Thursday's taper day and 43 for today. Tough but done.
Saturday:
  • Laima, Gaigai, and The Little Worker headed up for a weekend soccer tournament in Racine, WI -- they get all the glamour travel. That meant basketball, saturday school, playdate, and soccer driving duties for me, really tiring -- Laima is amazing that she usually handles all that!
  • Would say I enjoyed a day off from training, but owed 44 burpees for the 100 Day Burpee Challenge, so got those done. Did them in jeans, really a bad choice, but was too lazy to change...
Sunday: Off
  • Had thought about going into CrossFit today, taking Tazer and Munchkin to see where I work out, but residual soreness made me cautious, so another rest day. More father/son bonding time, which is never a bad thing.

  1. Don't drink the purple cool aid... mix it up. Your body will appreciate it

  2. But if you hadn't run you wouldn't have gotten that awesome trail picture...

Nice job this week. The burpees alone would kill me. ;-)

  3. Wow burpees in jeans! Sounds lovely... :)

Great job on 13.2!!! That added height on the box makes a big difference. I was so glad they allowed step ups.
