Monday: Hiking
- No running or CrossFit today, though I did get in Day 18 of the 100 Day Burpee Challenge -- since it was a school and work holiday to celebrate Presidents' Day, we decided on a family hike. We drove down to Starved Rock, a definite favorite for the whole family, which is a real workout in its own right, with plenty of elevation change, much of it by staircase. We walked for a couple of hours in spring-like weather under a sunny sky, then had lunch outside just as the clouds rolled in, the wind picked up, and it started feeling like winter again.
- Sore from yesterday's hike and probably all the CrossFit last week, so opted to take it easy today. Created a mini-WOD, but quit after a few reps, no need to push. Did my 19th day of the 100 Day Burpee Challenge, not getting any easier, even the first ones.
Thursday: CrossFit
I almost skipped today's WOD, because it was so heavy on push-ups -- LOTS of push-ups! And I'm not good at push-ups; in fact, I pretty much suck at them. That's the kind of thinking that led to my current plethora of weaknesses, however, so I girded my loins, and off I went.
- Strength: Front Squat
- Every 45 seconds for 6 sets perform 3 Front Squats (Reps at 0:00-0:45-1:30-2:15-3:00-3:45)
- Conditioning, For Time:
- 20 Push-ups
- 10 Broad Jumps (6 feet/4 feet)
- 20 Hand Release Push-ups
- 10 Broad Jumps
- 20 Deficit Push Ups (#45/25 plates)
- 10 Broad Jumps
- 20 Hand Release Burpees
- 10 Broad Jumps
As difficult as feared...but the broad jumps were kind of fun and today was the first WOD that included burpees, so I got in my 100 Day Burpee Challenge set as part of that (+1 at home).
Saturday: Run
Saturday: Run
- Quick run this morning to continue testing the Virratas -- really cold, plenty of ice and snow on the sidewalks. Virratas not really made to run in those conditions, sole soft and slick, but roads were clear and no traffic early, so that's where the run happened.
Sunday: CrossFit
- Super simple WOD today, but it didn't mean that it came easy: 75 snatches at 75# (I scaled it to 65#), with 4 burpees on the minute. That meant I could get my 100 Day Burpee Challenge done as part of the WOD, score! Towards the end my form started falling apart, so off came the plates and I finished the last few rounds at 45#.
A decent week, but more than ever I'm realizing how much I penalize myself with all this extra weight, REALLY need to get consistent with the cleaner eating.

That hike looked so beautiful. It's always interesting how people have their favorites and not so favorites when it coms to exercise. Push ups I love, unlike you, But you embrace burpees, and I do not!
ReplyDeleteYou are SO wrong about the burpees Amanda - I hate them, but they are a weakness (as are pushups and pretty much all upper body strength exercises). The 100 Day Burpee Challenge motivates me to work on them daily.
DeleteI love a good family hike! Your's was really beautiful. Quality time! Your raining is still going very well. I'm also battling to get rid of extra weight. Luckily as my weekly distance increase it seems to be helping. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAfter about 25 my push-ups look more like the worm dance! Haha. Embrace the burn (and ugh burpees).
