Training: 1/28/13 - 2/3/13

Monday: Run
  • Yesterday -- icy rain, sleet, freezing temps. Today -- running in shorts, standing water, green grass. Tomorrow -- forecast is 59 degrees. One of the strangest winters I can remember. Hilly 4 miler today, out and back through the Belle Aire neighborhood.

CrossFit Amplify WOD 1-31-13

Thursday: CrossFit
  • Somehow the days got away from me. I was planning CrossFit Tuesday morning, but delayed it out of sheer laziness, thinking I could get it done later in the morning or evening. Between work and family stuff, it never happened. I think I made up for it today, tough WOD!
    • Strength: Overhead squats -- couldn't quite get these, wrist kept breaking down, so Mike had me do back squats for the conditioning portion.
    • Conditioning:
      • 50 walking lunges
      • 20 overhead squats (back squats for me)
      • 20 toes to bar
      • 50 walking lunges
      • 15 overhead squats (back squats for me)
      • 15 toes to bar
      • 50 walking lunges
      • 10 overhead squats (back squats for me)
      • 10 toes to bar
  • When I got home, I could barely go up and down the stairs, my legs were so stiff and sore. Definitely going to add walking lunges to my morning dog walk! 
  • Day 2 of the 100 Day Burpee Challenge, hard to imagine how many of these I will do before I get to that 100th day! (Hard to imagine, but I looked it up, and it's 5,050 burpees in all.)  Still feeling sore after Thursday's CrossFit, taking it a bit easier today, but moving furniture -- tomorrow is a family birthday party for Tazer and the kitchen reveal.
  • Definitely used functional strength gains today, pushing my refrigerator up a flight of stairs using a makeshift ramp made of 2x4s.

Kitchen Remodel 2012-13

  • Day 3 of the 100 Day Burpee Challenge, a family birthday party for Tazer, and the kitchen reveal. Except for a few punchlist items, we are up and running! (But no running today, though Tazer and I did walk to the library after the party.)

  1. That's some good strong training. Winter weather is pretty consistent around here: snow, cold, wind...general tough conditions for outdoor training.

    1. I felt like a slacker this week, Joanne. Consistent weather would be a pleasure now, especially if it was warm! :)

  2. We are having one of the strangest summers ever. Everything seems to come in extremes. As I sit and type here there is a massive hail storm outside her in Johannesburg city centre.

  3. The kitchen looks great! Congrats on getting it done.

  4. Definitely our Midwest winters seem to be getting weirder and weirder. I thought last winter was goofy with the warm temps, but this one's wild swings are pretty crazy too.

  5. Nice training! That 100 day burped challenge sounds tough.

  6. I hate when I postpone WODs till the end of the day because I never get to them either :) Much easier to knock it out in the am!
