As I write this, I am sitting at my dining room table, which is sitting in our lower level family room, which also house the refrigerator, an extra couch, and other assorted goodies from the main level of our house (we live in a split-level ranch consisting of four levels). Laima and I are gutting and remodeling our kitchen, during the winter holidays, perhaps not the least stressful time, yet it made a lot of sense when we planned it. :)
Yesterday the plumber came to move a gas line and stayed to re-route a vent and bring our kitchen sink drainpipe up to current code. During the entire day, electricians upgraded our electrical service (no electricity and consequently no heat for over 4 hours!) and started the electrical work for our new kitchen.
During all this, we've found time to shop for and wrap presents, have family meals, host Chicago Bears games, and generally keep our day to day lives as typical as possible. I took Monday and Tuesday for holiday celebrating (but mostly kitchen demo). It could have been a stressful time, yet hasn't been, which reminded me of this great quote from Albert Einstein:
"Out of clutter, find simplicity. As perfect a way to sum up what is going on right now as is possible!
From dischord, find harmony.
In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity."
