Product Review: My Baby 3 and Friends for Nintendo DS (Guest Post)

Recently, Majesco Entertainment, via Rogers & Cowan, sent me a copy of "Baby 3 & Friends," a video game for the Nintendo DS system. "My Baby 3 & Friends follows the natural progression of the best selling My baby franchise, a story that traced baby's arrival in the original, moved on to baby's first steps in the sequel and now lets players see and hear the next stages in baby's development as a toddler. Using the Nintendo DS touch screen, stylus and microphone, girls can introduce their baby to new puzzles, toys and environments, including outside playtime in a swimming pool, on a swing or even a slide! Players can customize their baby's physical appearance and nursery, and then go shopping for cute clothes, accessories and more than 350 items. And brand new to the My Baby series are 30 skills to help guide baby's development in a non-linear way." Looks like a lot of fun and I was intrigued by the use of the voice as well as touch screen and stylus, but this game wasn't really up my alley, so I turned to the experts in the house, Teo and Gaja, who agreed to play and review the game. Here's what they had to say:

Teo (9):

At first I didn't want to play this game at all. It didn't look like my type of game. But, once I got into it, I was like, "This isn't so bad!" I am happy I at least tried it.

My Baby 3 & Friends is an okay DS game, though not one of my favorites. One reason is the voice controls, another is that it is somewhat repetitive. Learn, take pictures, send it somewhere, buy clothes and occasionally change his or her diaper, and feed the baby.
I like that you can choose your baby's eye color, his or her skin color, and clothes. That's what I like about this game. But it's not enough to overcome the repetitive play.

I would recommend this to people with long attention spans and patience. I personally didn't like this game as much as others (I LOVE their Boy and his Blob!), but that's me. I think other people would probably like this more than me.

Gaja (7, almost 8!):

I liked My baby 3 and Friends. There are a lot of things to do with your baby. Like push him/her on the swing, help him/her up the stairs and slide down the slide. You can also flip him around in the pool. But sometimes its hard to make your baby happy and stay happy.

In the game you do not need to use A,X,Y, B or moving direction controls. You are also able to take pictures of your baby. Then you can give your picture to grandma, to the store, or enter it in a contest . But you can only do one. If the contest is purple, you cannot pick it. You can also get money if you send it to grandma or to the store. They don't actually give you money but a shirt or pants or shoes for your baby. If you enter it into a contest you can get money.

I liked My Baby 3 and friends, but also found it a bit frustrating. Until you know what you are doing, it is hard. It's sometimes hard to understand what the baby wants and sometimes it's not. The voice controls are also hard to use. Besides those small things, I would recommend this game to girls my age and maybe boys too, they might like it.
